Magic: The Gathering | Reality Fracture - Everything You Need to Know
Magic's next set closes out a three-year story arc with its biggest "what if" premise yet: an entire alternate Multiverse, built by one planeswalker, now bleeding into the one we know. Reality Fracture releases on October 2, 2026, with prerelease events running from September 25.
The story
Jace Beleren, who now calls himself the Theorist, built the Echoverse as a Multiverse without the trauma of the last few years: no Eldrazi, no Nicol Bolas, no Phyrexians. A reality with its worst chapters edited out. The problem is that it's starting to overtake the real one, and a team of heroes has to stop him before it does. The set's central location, Hexhaven Academy, is an Echoverse mirror of Strixhaven - but where Strixhaven's colleges were enemy-colored, Hexhaven's five schools (Fatehold, Theorix, Stingerquill, Konstrari, and Vigorbloom) are allied-colored instead, each founded by an elder sphinx.
The headline mechanic: Echoed Pairs
Every Play Booster and Collector Booster includes an Echoed Pair: a legendary character's familiar Multiverse card, paired with their warped Echoverse counterpart in a different color. The set's biggest preview moment has been the return of the Lorwyn 5, Magic's original 2007 planeswalkers, each getting an Echoverse mirror: Ajani shifts from white to red, Liliana from black to white, Garruk from green to black, and Chandra from red to mono-blue. Jace himself is the only one without a mirror — fittingly, since he's the one holding it. His card, The Theorist, Jace Beleren, draws you a card on each of your opponents' turns.
There are dozens of Echoed Pairs scattered across the full set, with 15 of the most notable getting a premium Borderless treatment - continuous artwork that spans both cards in the pair, visually showing the two realities colliding.
New mechanics worth knowing
Empower Jace is the set's signature new mechanic - it creates a Jace planeswalker token, then adds loyalty counters to it equal to the ability's value. Planeswalkers are a major mechanical theme throughout the set, the biggest planeswalker-focused release since War of the Spark. Domain and -1/-1 counters make smaller cameo appearances too.
What's available at Mana Potion
We're taking preorders now for release day, October 2:
- Play Booster Box: 30 packs, best if you want to draft or build out a full collection
- Commander Deck: Multiverse Reforged: the set's single Commander precon, a four-color Jace deck built around creating and warping tokens
- Draft Night: a self-contained Pick-Two Draft kit for four players, with the winner keeping the packed-in Collector Booster
Alongside Reality Fracture, five new mono-colored Foundations Commander Decks release too - a more beginner-friendly way into the format if a four-color precon feels like a lot to start with: Calling All Angels, Keen Engineering, Wretched Ranks, Reign of Dragons, and Tramplesaurus Rex.
Gearing up
Once your order arrives, a playmat and a set of sleeves keep new cards in good shape from day one - standard size works fine here, same as the rest of your Magic collection.
