Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek: Everything You Need to Know
27th Oct 2026
Sixty years of Star Trek arrive in Magic on November 13, 2026. Star Trek is a Universes Beyond set that pulls cards from every series, from the original crew to Lower Decks, Prodigy and Starfleet Academy, and it brings a first for Magic: cards signed by the actors who played the characters. Prerelease events run from November 6 to 12, and the set comes to MTG Arena on November 10.
The set at a glance
- Release date: November 13, 2026 (set code TRK)
- Size: 296 cards in the main set (81 common, 110 uncommon, 80 rare, 25 mythic rare), plus 30 Stardates cards
- Draft: ten archetypes, one for every two-color pair
- Play Boosters: 14 cards plus a token, with a foil card and a land slot in every pack
- Collector Boosters: 15 cards plus an art card or foil token, and the only place to find the signed cards
The mechanics
Several new mechanics have been shown in previews. Here is how preview coverage describes them (the final card text may be worded differently, so check the cards once the set is out):
- Federation: scales with the number of different creature types among your non-Borg creatures
- Assimilate: a Borg-only mechanic that takes a creature, gives it a +1/+1 counter, and strips its other creature types
- Face a Dilemma: triggers when you choose one or more modes for a spell or ability
- Beam me up: works like Flashback, but you also return a creature you control to your hand
- Strange New Worlds: counts the differently named lands you control, backed by ten common tapped Planet lands that gain you life
Spacecraft and Station return from Edge of Eternities, and the new Officer creature type debuts here. Previews have also shown cards like Captain James T. Kirk, Captain Kathryn Janeway, The City on the Edge of Forever, and U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Galaxy-Class.
Signed Headliners and the collector treatments
The headline chase is the Headliner Signed cards: seven different cards, each signed by an actor from the franchise (William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, Patrick Stewart, Ethan Peck, Jeri Ryan, LeVar Burton and Brent Spiner), with fewer than 250 copies of each. They only appear in Collector Boosters.
Collector Boosters also carry the rest of the booster fun:
- LCARS frames: 29 cards in the computer-interface style, plus all ten shock lands
- Stardates: 30 mythic reimaginings of existing Magic cards, such as Kenrith, the Returned King becoming General Picard, Earth Warlord, and a Sheoldred version called Khan, Engineered Evil
- Classic Enterprise frames: 24 cards in a retro look
- Klingon frames and Klingon Script: a Klingon-language foil version of select cards, with Worf featured
- Scene cards: four multi-card scenes, including Janeway's assimilation in Unimatrix Zero
- Borderless lands and commanders
